Researchers eventually learned that this was an inaccurate explanation of the properties of space, and they stopped using the term “aether”. While they may have greater hip-creds in some circles, I think that their institutional position is generally more precarious, they are more likely to get dismissed as producing postmodern mumbo-jumbo, etc. Darwin showed that nature selects those forms that are better adapted to a particular geographic zone and way of life.
